U.S. retail sales rise in March

U.S. retail sales rebounded in March, the first monthly gain this year, indicating the economic activity in the country continues to improve in the month.

In March, U.S. retail sales shot up 0.9 percent from the previous month, the Commerce Department said on Tuesday. February' s data was revised to decline 0.5 percent.

Excluding volatile categories such as autos and gasoline, retail sales were up 0.5 percent in March following a fall of 0.3 percent in February.

Retail sales account for about one-third of consumer spending, the main engine of the economic activity. Endite
