50 injured as bus overturns in central Zambia

Xinhua, April 14, 2015 Adjust font size:

About 50 people were injured, some seriously, when a bus they were traveling in overturned in central Zambia's Chibombo district on early Tuesday, police said.

The accident, which happened in the early hours of Tuesday, was caused by excessive speeding, said Zambian Police Spokesperson Charity Munganga-Chanda.

The bus was carrying 60 passengers traveling from Kitwe city on the Copperbelt Province to Lusaka, the Zambian capital, she added.

The injured, including the driver, were admitted to a local hospital in the district while those with serious injuries were taken to the country's main referral hospital, the University Teaching Hospital in the Zambian capital.

The government recently said it will ban public buses from moving at night following an increase in road traffic accidents by public buses during the night. Endi
