Benfica rout Academica 5-1 in Portuguese league

Benfica routed Academica 5-1 on Saturday in the 28th round of the Portuguese league at Luz Stadium in the capital.

Benfica dominated throughout the match and made a 3-0 lead in the first half. Brazilian midfielder Jardel scored the first goal with a header only eight minutes after the start following a pass by Pizzi.

Three minutes later Brazilian forward Jonas scored a goal also with a header after Almeida made a pass to him from the left flank in the bottom line. Brazilian forward Lima scored the third goal with a penalty shot in the 19th minute.

Jonas scored his second goal in the match in 53rd minute with the help of Portuguese Almeida. Academica's Portuguese forward Lopes scored the only goal for his team in the 80th and Benfica's Serbian defender Fejsa completed the rout with a goal in 84th minute.

With the big win Benfica continue to top the Portuguese league with 71 points, while Academica stand 14th with 27 points.

Also on Saturday, Boavista lost to Maritimo 0-2, Rio Ave lost to FC Porto 1-3 while Moreirense beat V.Guimaraes 2-1. Endi
