Hamilton dominates first practicing day at F1 Shanghai GP

Xinhua, April 10, 2015 Adjust font size:

The reigning world champion Lewis Hamilton of Britain was back in charge as he was fastest in both of the two practices here on Friday at the F1 Chinese Grand Prix.

After setting the pace with a fastest lap of one minute 39.033 seconds ahead of his Mercedes teammate Nico Rosberg in the morning session, the 30-year-old Briton once more dominated the afternoon session after lapping in 1:37.219.

Rosberg fell to fifth in the afternoon while Ferrari driver Kimi Raikkonen of Finland moved up to the second place, trailing less than half a second behind Hamilton.

Daniel Ricciardo of Australia gave encouragement to Red Bull by lapping in 1:38.311 for third, leaving Sebastian Vettel fourth on 1:38.339 in the second Ferrari.

Daniil Kvyat of Red Bull was sixth on 1:38.737. But the Russian crashed at Turn 14 during the session and damaged his front wing.

The Chinese Grand Prix is the third race in F1 2015 calendar. Hamilton enjoyed the pole position in both of the previous two races but finished second behind his long-time rival Vettel in Melbourne two weeks ago after leading all the way to win the Malaysia GP in the opening race. Endi
