Xinhua summary of Asia-Pacific stocks news at 1100 GMT, April 7

Seoul shares ended almost unchanged on Tuesday.

The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) inched up 0.6 points, or 0.03 percent, to 2,047.03 at the close. Trading volume stood at 426.27 million shares worth 4.76 trillion won (4. 37 billion U.S. dollars).

TOKYO -- Tokyo stocks closed at a nearly two-week high Tuesday as investor sentiment was lifted by overnight gains on Wall Street. The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average was up 242.56 points, or 1.25 percent, from Monday at 19,640.54, the highest close since March 25.

The turnover was 2,414.9 billion yen (about 20.18 billion U.S. dollars).

SHANGHAI -- Chinese stocks ended higher on Tuesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 2.52 percent to finish at 3, 961.38 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index gained 2.03 percent to close at 13, 768.73 points.

VIENTIANE -- The Lao stock market finished higher on Tuesday, up 1.06 percent against the previous trading day.

The Lao Securities Exchange composite index increased by 15.81 points to 1,501.92. A total of 165,019 shares worth about 1.21 billion Lao kip (about 149,000 U.S. dollars) changed hands at the stock market.

SYDNEY -- The Australian stock market closed higher on Tuesday following the central bank's decision to hold interest rates at the record low of 2.5 percent.

At the official close, the benchmark S&P/ASX200 index had risen 27.4 points, or 0.46 percent, to 5,926, while the broader All Ordinaries index gained 23.5 points, or 0.4 percent, to 5,893.2.

MANILA -- Philippine shares closed 0.56 percent higher on Tuesday. The benchmark Philippine Stock Exchange index increased by 44.94 points to 8098.68. The all-share index went up by 21.71 points,or 0.47 percent, to 4628.79.

Trading volume reached 1.79 billion shares worth 5.8 billion pesos (130.93 million U.S. dollars).

HO CHI MINH CITY -- VN-Index, the stock market index of Ho Chi Minh (HCM) City bourse in south Vietnam, closed at 548.11 points on Tuesday, up 5.14 points, or 0.95 percent, against the previous trading day's closing session.

About 96.779 million shares worth 1.612 trillion Vietnamese dong (VND) (75.16 million U.S. dollars) changed hands at the southern HCM City Stock Exchange. Prices of 160 stocks went up, 56 stocks fell down, while 67 stocks remained unchanged.

HANOI -- Stock market index of Vietnam's capital Hanoi, HNX- Index, closed at 82.33 points on Tuesday, up 0.67 points, or 0.82 percent, against the previous closing session.

A total of 40.355 million shares worth 423.645 billion Vietnamese dong (19.84 million U.S. dollars) were traded at the Hanoi Stock Exchange on Tuesday, an increase of 31.02 percent in volume and 2.36 percent in value against the previous closing session.

SINGAPORE -- Singapore stocks finished higher on Tuesday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) up 12.71 points, or 0.37 percent, to close at 3,465.62.

A total of 1.95 billion shares changed hands with turnover of 952.7 million Singapore dollars (695.4 million U.S. dollars).

DHAKA -- Bangladesh's DSE (Dhaka Stock Exchange) Broad Index closed Tuesday at 4,345.03 points, down 52.23 points or about 1.19 percent from Monday's finish.

Total turnover increased to about 3.26 billion taka (about 41. 77 million U.S. dollars) on Tuesday from about 3.05 billion taka ( about 39.11 million U.S. dollars) on Monday.

JAKARTA -- Indonesian shares closed higher by 43.26 points, or 0.79 percent, to a level of 5,523.29 on Tuesday.

Some 240,293 transactions were booked, involving 7.00 billion shares worth 6.80 trillion rupiah (about 477.43 million U.S. dollars).

KUALA LUMPUR -- The Malaysian stock market ended higher here on Tuesday. The Kuala Lumpur Composite Index (KLCI) was at 1,856.51 up 13.57 points or 0.73 percent, and the Emas was at 12,705.87 up 80.93 points or 0.64 percent.

Turnover increased to 1.95 billion shares valued at 2.10 billion ringgit Malaysia(577.00 million U.S. dollars), compared with 1.35 billion shares valued at 906.22 million ringgit Malaysia (249.44 million U.S. dollars) on Monday.

COLOMBO -- Sri Lanka's Colombo stock exchange continued its positive trend, closing up by 9.74 points, 0.14 percent, to close at 6,927.25 on Tuesday. Trading volume stood at 11.7 million shares worth 457 million rupees (about 3.4 million U.S. dollars).

MUMBAI -- Indian stocks closed almost flat on Tuesday after RBI kept the repo rate at 7.5 percent.

The benchmark S&P BSE Sensex closed at 28516.59, 12.13 points or 0.04 percent up from previous close of 28,504.46.

BANGKOK -- The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) index moved up 13.48 points, or 0.88 percent to close at 1,549.53 points Tuesday.
