U.S. Republican Senator Rand Paul will announce his presidential campaign on Tuesday and the slogan has been forged as "Defeat the Washington machine. Unleash the American dream."
The Kentucky Senator has also pitched himself as a "different kind of Republican", according to a new video released. The libertarian-minded conservative will formally enter the GOP presidential race during a Tuesday rally in Louisville, Kentucky, joining Texas Sen. Ted Cruz as official candidates in the 2016 race.
The nearly three-minute video was posted Sunday on Paul's website and YouTube channel. "To fix Washington, we can't have business as usual," Paul said in the video, which is a clip taken from his speech earlier this year. "It's time for a new way. A new set of ideas. A new leader, one you can trust. One who works for you and, above all, it's time for a new president."
Paul will start his campaign with a five-day tour of five states, including Kentucky, New Hampshire, South Carolina, Iowa and Nevada.
Paul has been a Republican senator since 2011. His father, Ron Paul, is a former Texas congressman who is an icon in the libertarian community. Analysts believed that Paul's left- libertarian leanings might make him the candidate of choice for disaffected free marketers.
In a new poll by ABC News and The Washington Post, Paul has 8 percent of supporting rate in the GOP, falling behind the party's leading potential candidate Jeb Bush's 21 percent. Endite
