Three Spanish cavers reported missing in Morocco

Moroccan authorities are currently searching for three Spanish cavers who have been reported missing for five days in a mountainous region between Marrakech and Uarzazate in the south of the country.

The trio, namely two 41 year-old policemen and a 26-year-old lawyer, were part of an organized trip of nine cavers, who had set out from Seville. Their companions alerted authorities when the three failed to appear at a meeting point on Tuesday.

Speaking on Spanish National Radio, Julia Ordonez, wife of one of the missing explained they were experienced cavers.

"They have many hours of being on mountains behind them and they are not just backpackers," she said, adding they had travelled, "well-equipped, with a medical kit and sufficient food."

The Spanish Interior Ministry is trying to ascertain what has happened to the trio.

Ordonez said she "had no doubts about the work the Moroccan government is doing -- they are doing everything possible, although we would like it if Spanish emergency services were also involved." Endit
