Bird flu hits poultry farm in Netherlands

Xinhua, April 4, 2015 Adjust font size:

Cases of H7N7 bird flu were detected on a poultry farm in Milheeze, southern Netherlands, the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs said Friday night.

Since Friday 5:30 p.m. local time, a transport ban has been imposed on an area of over one kilometer around the infected farm in North Brabant province for poultry, eggs, poultry manure and used bedding.

Based on European rules, all 12,000 laying hens will be culled.

Last month, bird flu of the mild H7N7 variant was detected on poultry farms in Gelderland and Friesland provinces respectively.

In November last year, bird flu of the highly pathogenic H5N8 strain was also detected on several commercial poultry farms in the country. Endit
