India's ruling BJP claims to be world's largest political party

Xinhua, April 3, 2015 Adjust font size:

India's ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Friday claimed to have become the world's largest political party.

"BJP has become the biggest party in the world. We will cross the 10 crore mark soon," senior party leader and Indian Minister Prakash Javadekar told the media on the sidelines of a party conclave in the southern city of Bengaluru.

He said that the party would soon start training all its new members as well as speed up nationwide membership drive. "We will enable new members to become active party workers," he said.

"We have our governments in 12 states, including eight states where we are in power on our own and four in alliance with our partners," the BJP leader said.

The party swept to power in general elections in May last year, decimating the Congress party which ruled the country for a decade. Endi
