Tokyo stocks close 0.63 pct higher in thin trading

Tokyo stocks closed 0.63 percent higher Friday following overnight gains on Wall Street, but trading volume was thin ahead of the release of a key U.S. jobs report.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average was up 122.29 points, from Thursday at 19,435.08. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange rose 9.99 points, or 0. 64 percent, higher at 1,564.16.

Major gainers included glass and ceramics, rubber and food issues.

The turnover was 1,713.5 billion yen (about 14.32 billion U.S. dollars). Endi
