Mercedes-Benz cars rule New York International Auto Show

Xinhua, April 3, 2015 Adjust font size:

The five winners of the 2015 World Car Awards were announced Thursday at a press conference for New York International Auto Show, with the Mercedes-Benz C-Class named as the 2015 World Car of the Year.

The Mercedes-Benz C-Class was chosen from an initial entry list of 24 vehicles from all over the world, then a short list of twelve, then three finalists: the Ford Mustang, the Volkswagen Passat, and the Mercedes-Benz C-Class.

"The C-Class is a best seller that has always been a trendsetter in the premium medium-size category. It comes to the starting line with qualities usually reserved for higher-class automobiles -- ecologically, technically and also with regard to comfort and driving pleasure," said Dieter Zetsche, chairman of the Board of Management of Daimler AG and head of Mercedes-Benz Cars. "It embodies what we understand modern automotive luxury made by Mercedes-Benz to be and has all the prerequisites to be a huge success."

The 2014 World Car of the Year winner was the Audi A3.

Meanwhile, Mercedes-Benz S Coupe won the 2015 World Luxury Car by beating the BMW i8 and the Range Rover Autobiography Black Editon, the other two finalists.

In other categories, the Mercedes AMG GT was declared the 2015 World Performance Car, and the BMW i8 was the 2015 World Green Car, while Citroen C4 Cactus got the 2015 World Car Design of the Year. The World Car Awards are decided by a team of journalists from North America, Asia, and Europe, who decided to independently test and vote on the best cars in five different categories.

A new breed of supercars that are said to have taken speed, power and automotive technology to new levels will be showcased at the 2015 New York International Automobile Show (NYIAS), scheduled to be held from April 3-12 at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in Manhattan, New York.

According to NYIAS, nearly 1,000 of the latest new cars and trucks will be on display at the show, and more than one million visitors are expected to visit the show to see what is truly possible from the automotive industry. Endite
