China, Myanmar meet over warplane bombing

Xinhua, April 2, 2015 Adjust font size:

Chinese Vice President Li Yuanchao met Myanmar Foreign Minister U Wunna Maung Lwin in Beijing on Thursday to discuss a Myanmar warplane's fatal bombing of southwest China's Yunnan Province earlier this month.

The plane crossed China's border on March 13 and dropped a bomb on Lincang, killing five Chinese. The border area is being patrolled by Chinese troops as Myanmar confronts rebels on its side of the border.

U Wunna Maung Lwin apologized for the casualties and vowed that Myanmar will "properly deal with the issue".

China has confidence in the Myanmar government's attitude on dealing with the aftermath, said Li, urging Myanmar to adopt measures to prevent the reoccurrence of similar incidents "so as to ensure the healthy and stable development of bilateral ties". Endi
