U.S. embassy in Jamaica closes hours for suspicious package

Xinhua, April 2, 2015 Adjust font size:

The U.S. embassy in Jamaica was shut down for several hours as an unidentified package was thrown over its perimeter wall Wednesday, a week before U.S. President Barack Obama's visit to the country.

The incident happened at about 7:45 a.m. local time (1245 GMT), Deputy Commissioner of Police Clifford Blake told a press conference, adding the police has quickly caught the "white man who spoke with American accent."

Bomb-disposal experts were summoned to examine the content of the package but "no threats were uncovered," Blake said.

Obama is set to visit Jamaica and meet with leaders from the Caribbean Community on April 9. Endi
