1st LD Writethru: At least 8 killed, over 30 injured in Kenyan university attak

Xinhua, April 2, 2015 Adjust font size:

At least eight people have been confirmed dead and more than 30 others have been injured after unknown gunmen forced their way into a university in northeastern Kenya and opened fire on the students, a relief agency said Thursday.

Kenya Red Cross Society said the injured have been rushed to the hospital, and four of them are in critical condition and would be airlifted for specialized treatment in Nairobi later on Thursday.

The agency said hospitals urgently need blood to help the wounded, who had escaped with gunshot wounds after masked gunmen exchanged gunfire with security forces at the Moi University campus in Garissa town near the border with Somalia at around 5:30 a.m. local time (0230 GMT).

Ishmael Abdikadir, a witness, said the situation seems to have calmed, but more wounded people are still being rushed to hospitals in the country.

"Some injured persons had their legs cut off and most of them had gunshot wounds," Abdikadir told Xinhua via phone. Endi
