Chinese police continue hunt of economic fugitives overseas

The Ministry of Public Security (MPS) has said it will launch a new round of its campaign to capture fugitives overseas implicated in economic crimes following last year's success.

Fox Hunt 2015 will kick off on Wednesday targeting economic suspects and corrupt Party members and government officials, according to a ministry statement released Tuesday.

Fox Hunt is part of a larger campaign codenamed "Sky Net" that combines government, Party, law enforcement agencies, the central bank and diplomatic services.

The MPS vowed to strengthen cooperation with the Supreme People's Procuratorate, the Supreme People's Court and the Organization Department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee in preventing private overseas trips with improper visas and the illicite transfer of money via offshore companies and underground banks.

"Cases must be investigated deeply, and the space for fugitives overseas will be crushed," the statement said.

The ministry stressed that equal focus should be given to seizing suspects and retrieving illicit property, through the dual efforts of pursuit and persuasion.

In Fox Hunt 2014, 680 fugitives were repatriated to China. Endi
