Saudi King welcomes Yemeni political parties to hold talks

Xinhua, March 30, 2015 Adjust font size:

he Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud said on Monday he welcomed all Yemeni political parties "to meet under the umbrella of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC)," Saudi Press Agency reported.

While chairing the Saudi cabinet, the king said that political groups wishing to maintain Yemen's security and stability could come together in support of the legitimacy of Yemen, return arms to the state and spread no security threat to neighboring states.

Saudi Arabia and fellow GCC member states launched airstrikes on Houthi positions in Yemen on March 26, a move condemned by Iran but supported by the United States, Egypt, Jordan, and Morocco.

On the same day, the king said the Saudi-led military airstrikes against the Houthis in Yemen would continue until security is restored in the country. Endit
