The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) has strongly condemned the attack by al-Shabaab on Friday at Hotel Maka Al Mukarama in Somalia's capital Mogadishu, according to a statement from the East African bloc on Sunday.

Mahboub Maalim, Executive Secretary of IGAD, said, "IGAD condemns, in the strongest terms possible, Al-Shabaab's cowardly act of terror perpetrated on Friday, March 27, 2015 at Hotel Maka Al Mukarama in Mogadishu, Somalia."

"IGAD will not be swayed by the cowardly acts of terror attacks by the delusional group Al-Shabaab. We will work with the Government and the people of Somalia who will continue to rebuild their homeland. The swift action of the Somali forces demonstrates the capability of the Somali forces. We hail their heroism," noted the Executive Secretary.

"We extend our deepest condolences to the Government of the Federal Democratic Republic of Somalia, families and loved ones of the victims of this senseless attack," said Maalim. Endi
