(Sports) Vettel wins Malaysian F1 GP with Mercedes drivers following behind

Xinhua, March 29, 2015 Adjust font size:

Sebastian Vettel won the Malaysian F1 Grand Prix on Sunday, which marked his and Ferrari's first win since 2013.

The Ferrari driver finished the 56 laps at the 5.543 km Sepang International Circuit in one hour 41 minutes and 5.793 seconds, 8. 569 seconds ahead of his Mercedes rival Lewis Hamilton and 12.310 seconds ahead of Hamilton's teammate Nico Rosberg.

Vettel took an early lead when his rivals pitted under the safety car, and adopted a two-stop strategy work to beat the Mercedes drivers, who did three stops.

This was Vettel's first victory since 2013 season finale in Brazil, as well as Ferrari's first win since the 2013 Spanish Grand Prix.

Vettel started the race on the second place, behind Hamilton. However, he chose to stay out when the safety car was called into while the Mercedes brought their two cars in for a change of tyres, which enable the German to take a lead.

After the match, Hamilton retained the championship lead on 43 points, with Vettel only three points behind him.

Vettel's Ferrari teammate Kimi Raikkonen finished the race with the fourth place, ahead of Williams' Valtteri Bottas and Felipe Massa.

The next F1 Grand Prix will be held on April 10-12 in Shanghai, China. Endi
