Danish court ends massive trials of cannabis traders

The Copenhagen City Court on Friday sentenced the last batch of 10 people to prison terms in what is described as Denmark's largest action against organized cannabis trade.

Friday's severest punishment was five years and six months, also the longest term among the total of 76 people who have been convicted since January.

Previously, the court gave five other verdicts. All six trials are a result of a March 2014 police raid in Christiana, a hippie community in the heart of Copenhagen where secret cannabis trade was rampant.

Last year, Copenhagen police raided Christiania, also known as "Freetown," leading to a total of 80 arrests - the largest bust in the 43-year history of the self-proclaimed autonomous neighborhood of about 850 residents. Endit
