Chinese Premier Li Keqiang Thursday extended congratulations to the ceremony marking the start of a year-long event to promote tourism cooperation between China and Central and Eastern European (CEE) countries.

In the congratulatory message to the ceremony held in the Hungarian capital city of Budapest, Li said that the year-long tourism cooperation promotion event falls under one of the agreements reached at a leaders' meeting between China and the CEE countries in Belgrade in December last year, and is an important part of the Belgrade Guidelines for Cooperation between China and CEE countries.

As a major constituent part and key field of the two sides' cooperation, expansion of tourism cooperation is conducive to promoting human resources exchange between China and CEE countries, deepening the mutual understanding among peoples, reinforcing traditional friendship and adding driving forces to the economic development of all countries, Li said.

Li pointed out that both China and CEE countries boast abundant tourism resources, which make up good basis and vast potential for tourism cooperation.

More than 100 million Chinese travel abroad each year. More and more visitors from China and CEE countries hope to understand each other's long history and rich culture to a deeper extent and enjoy the gorgeous natural scenery and unique cultural landscape of each other, said the premier.

Li said China is willing to work with CEE countries to jointly well operate the serial events related to the year-long tourism cooperation promotion, in striving to turn tourism cooperation into a new point of growth, inject new vigor and vitality into the traditional friendship between the two sides, and make new contributions to deepening the mutually beneficial and win-win China-Europe comprehensive strategic partnership.

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban also sent a congratulatory message to the ceremony.

In the message, Orban said that Hungary has always dedicated itself to propelling cooperation between China and CEE countries, which is not only in conformity with the interests of the two sides, but also meets the interests of the European Union.

Under the ever-changing international situation, it is essential to deepen relations with countries that are of the greatest vigor and vitality for development such as China, Orban said. Endi
