Marquinhos signs one-year extension to 2019 in PSG

Xinhua, March 27, 2015 Adjust font size:

Paris Saint-German announced Thursday that the defending Ligue 1 champions have signed a one-year extension with Brazilian defender Marquinhos.

The new contract will keep the 20-year-old in Paris until 2019, according to a news release of Les Parisians.

PSG president Nasser Al Khelaifi stated that they moved quickly to tie Marquinhos to a longer deal since the Brazilian youngster had drawn various interests from some "biggest European clubs".

"Marquinhos represents the future of our club and this extension shows how strongly attached he is to Paris Saint-Germain," said the Qatari.

"We are very happy to extend our adventure with this young and talented player, and it shows how committed the club is to conserving our best young talents.

"This contract extension further reinforces Paris Saint-Germain's ambitious long-term project," he added.

Marquinhos has played a more and more important role in the squad since his move from Serie A's Rome in July 2013, having played 63 games with PSG and scoring 6 goals.

"It's great, very good news. It shows that I'm doing a good job," he's quoted by the club's press release. "I'm very happy that the club is showing such confidence in me. It's a new stage of my life."

"The project here in Paris is magnificent... and life in Paris is wonderful!" he said. "I'm very happy with everything that's happened in my life since signing here."

"Paris Saint-Germain has provided so much for me. I hope it continues for a long time to come," he said. Endi
