Greek ferry carrying 282 runs aground off Aegean island

Xinhua, March 26, 2015 Adjust font size:

A Greek ferry with 227 passengers and 55 crew members on board run aground off the port of Kassos island in the southeastern Aegean Sea amid bad weather, Greek Coast Guard said on Thursday. No injuries were reported.

Two fishing boats have failed to tug "Vincenzos Kornaros" into the port and a tug boat from a nearby island was expected to assist efforts, it added.

There have been no injuries among the passengers and crew, the ferry's captain Dimitris Lavvas told reporters via phone.

The ferry had sailed from Piraeus port and its final destination was Rhodes Island. It had reached with no problems the ports of Milos, Santorini, Anafi, Herakleion and Siteia before running aground off the port of Kassos amid strong winds. Endi
