Tokyo shares sharply plunged by break on Thursday following big drops in the overnight U.S. market due to weak-than-expected U.S. business spending data.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average tumbled 309.32 points, or 1. 57 percent, from Wednesday to 19,436.88.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was down 25.96 points, or 1.63 percent, to 1, 566.05. Endi
