Spain's most successful Olympian David Cal retires

Xinhua, March 26, 2015 Adjust font size:

Canoeist David Cal, Spain's most successful Olympian, has retired from competition, the country's Olympic committee said on Wednesday.

The 32-year-old's decision was driven by a "lack of motivation and form".

Spain's Olympic committee president, Alejandro Blanco, praised the winner of one gold and four silver Olympics medals.

"We should protect and give thanks to David Cal, there are few like him," Blanco said.

Cal had reunited with his coach Jesus Morlan in December, training with Brazilian Olympic hopefuls in a bid to shed excess weight and revive his career. Endi
