Seoul shares ended higher on Wednesday.

The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) edged up 1.44 points, or 0.07 percent, to 2,042.81 at the close. Trading volume stood at 418.1 million shares worth 4.98 trillion won (4.52 billion U.S. dollars).

TOKYO -- Tokyo stocks closed 0.17 percent higher Wednesday as investors eye dividends ahead of the financial year-end, but gains were limited due to profit-taking after recent gains.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average was up 32.75 points, from Tuesday at 19,746.20. The turnover was 2,562.2 billion yen ( about 21.42 billion U.S. dollars).

SYDNEY -- The Australian share market closed flat on Wednesday after an rises in early trade.

At the official market close, the benchmark S&P/ASX200 index was up 4.2 points, or 0.07 percent, at 5,973.3, while the broader All Ordinaries index added 2.6 points, or 0.04 percent, to 5,937.1.

MANILA -- Philippine shares closed 0.09 percent higher on Wednesday.

The benchmark Philippine Stock Exchange index increased by 7.40 points to 7,836.34. The all-share index went up by 5.74 points, or 0.13 percent, to 4532.56.

Trading volume reached 1.65 billion shares worth 7.68 billion pesos (171.85 million U.S. dollars).

VIENTIANE -- The Lao stock market finished on Wednesday up 0.55 percent against the previous trading day.

The Lao Securities Exchange composite index increased by 23.71 points to 1,475.09. A total of 54,315 shares worth about 391 million Lao kip (about 48,000 U.S. dollars) changed hands at the stock market.

HO CHI MINH CITY -- VN-Index, the stock market index of Ho Chi Minh (HCM) City bourse in south Vietnam, closed at 560.93 points on Wednesday, down 6.5 points, or 1.15 percent, against the previous trading day's closing session.

About 87.606 million shares worth 1.754 trillion Vietnamese dong (VND) (81.77 million U.S. dollars) changed hands at the southern HCM City Stock Exchange.

A total of 38.819 million shares worth 816.91 billion VND (38. 07 million U.S. dollars) were traded on Wednesday.

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong stocks closed up 128.63 points, or 0.53 percent to 24,528.23 points on Wednesday.

The benchmark Hang Seng Index traded between 24,377.92 and 24, 613.69. Turnover totaled 83.59 billion HK dollars (about 10.77 billion U.S. dollars).

TAIPEI -- Taiwan's share prices closed down 0.65 percent on Wednesday with the weighted index down 63.83 points at 9,667.83, according to news reaching here from Taipei.

Turnover totaled 94.64 billion new Taiwan dollars (about 3.02 billion U.S. dollars) during the trading session.

BEIJING -- Chinese stocks ended mixed on Wednesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.83 percent, or 30.68 points, to finish at 3,660.73 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index dipped 0.34 percent, or 44.11 points, to close at 12,757.1 points.

DHAKA -- Bangladesh's DSE (Dhaka Stock Exchange) Broad Index closed Wednesday at 4,509.30 points, up 15.90 points or about 0.35 percent from Tuesday's finish. Total turnover increased to about 3.51 billion taka (about 32.76 million U.S. dollars) on Wednesday from about 2.56 billion taka( about 32.76 million U.S. dollars) on Tuesday.

KUALA LUMPUR -- The Malaysian stock market ended higher here on Wednesday.

The Kuala Lumpur Composite Index (KLCI) was at 1,819.10, up 5. 06 points or 0.28 percent, and the Emas was at 12,469.59, up 22.71 points or 0.18 percent. Turnover increased to 2.04 billion shares valued at 2.12 billion ringgit Malaysia(578.05 million U.S. dollars), compared with 1.95 billion shares valued at 1.83 billion ringgit Malaysia (501.16 million U.S. dollars) on Tuesday.

SINGAPORE -- Singapore stocks finished higher on Wednesday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) up 5.76 points, or 0. 17 percent, to close at 3,419.02.

A total of 1.24 billion shares changed hands with turnover of 950.6 million Singapore dollars (693.7 million U.S. dollars).

JAKARTA -- Indonesian shares closed lower by 42.16 points, or 0. 77 percent, to a level of 5,405.49 on Wednesday.
