Fluminense name Drubscky as new coach

Xinhua, March 25, 2015 Adjust font size:

Fluminense on Tuesday named Ricardo Drubscky as their new coach, less than a day after sacking Cristovao Borges.

Drubscky, 53, has been charged with lifting the four-time Brazilian Serie A champions back into the top four of Rio de Janeiro's state league after a poor run of results.

The team is currently fifth following a 1-1 draw with lowly Tigres on Saturday.

"I have big expectations to do well at one of the giants of Brazilian football," Drubscky told Fluminense's official website. "It's a great opportunity and I hope to make the most of it."

Drubscky's coaching career has included spells at Ecuador's Universidad Catolica and Brazil's Atletico Mineiro.

His first game in charge of Fluminense will be against Cabofriense at the Maracana stadium on Thursday.

Brazil's various state leagues are a precursor to the national Serie A season, which begins on May 9. Endi
