Five people killed in western Tanzania's road accident

Xinhua, March 24, 2015 Adjust font size:

Five people were killed and several others injured in a road accident in Uchama area of Nzega district in western Tanzania's region of Tabora, police said on Tuesday.

Tabora Regional Police Commander (RPC) Suzan Kaganda said via telephone that the accident involving four vehicles occurred on Monday night at around 9:00 p.m. local time in an area located five kilometers from Nzega Township.

She said that the accident involved a Toyota Land Cruiser hardtop, which was trying to overtake another vehicle before ramming into an Iringa-Mwanza bound bus.

The RPC said five people killed on the spot, including four people who were in the Toyota Land Cruiser and the driver of the bus. The Toyota Land Cruiser was owned by Nzega District Council.

The regional police chief associated the deadly accident with reckless driving in the busiest highway.

Kaganda said ten people were severely injured and were rushed at the district hospital for observation and treatment.

"This is one of the horrible accidents happened in this district since January this year. But, the driver of the Land Cruiser was the source of the accident as he was trying to overtake the lorry before colliding with the Iringa-Mwanza bound bus," said one of the eyewitnesses David Nyamaje.

He said all the vehicles were badly damaged due to the high impact as all vehicles were in high speed before the accident.

The road accident is one of the serious road accidents that continue to claim lives of innocent people in the east African nation. A few weeks ago, a number of accidents have claimed lives of nearly 100 people, including the one which killed 50 people. Endi
