Xinhua, March 24, 2015 Adjust font size:

A total of 337 athletes from 10 countries in the region are battling out at the ongoing 12th ASEAN Taekwondo Federation (ATF) Championships 2015 here on Tuesday.

During the four-day tournament, which kicked off on Monday to last to Thursday, contestants from Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Myanmar, Laos, Singapore, East Timor and host Vietnam will compete in both men's and women's demonstration and combat categories.

According to ATF President Kris Wiluan, this year's tournament, the 12th edition of this kind, has attracted the ever largest number of athletes, proving the development of Taekwondo in the Southeast Asian region in recent years.

The tournament is a rehearsal for participating teams to horn their skills ahead of the upcoming 28th SEA Games held this June in Singapore, Director of HCM City Department of Culture and Sports Phan Nguyen Nhu Khue told reporters.

He also added that the event is a good opportunity for the athletes to exchange and learn about Taekwondo development in other countries, as well as tighten relationships and solidarity among those in the ASEAN community.

The tournament is co-organized by the Vietnam Taekwondo Federation and HCM City Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism. Endi
