Australia, Cambodia expected to sign immigration cooperation deal

Xinhua, March 24, 2015 Adjust font size:

Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sar Kheng left here Tuesday evening for an official visit to Australia, where the two countries are expected to ink a deal on immigration cooperation.

During the visit, Sar Kheng will hold talks with Australian Immigration Minister Peter Dutton, according to a press statement from the Cambodian Ministry of Interior. "The two ministers will sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Cambodian government and the Australian government on immigration cooperation at the Parliament House in Canberra," the statement said. "The MoU will clearly reflect the commitment of Cambodia and Australia in jointly combating every security threat, especially cross-border crimes and illegal immigrants," it said.

Sar Kheng will also meet with Australian Foreign Minister Julie Bishop during his visit, which lasts until March 27.

Sar Kheng's trip to Australia was made just 12 days after Peter Dutton visited Cambodia to further discuss a refugee resettlement plan that the two countries signed in September. Endi
