Seoul shares ended higher on Tuesday.

The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) rose 4. 78 points, or 0.23 percent, to 2,041.37 at the close. Trading volume stood at 324.35 million shares worth 4.56 trillion won (4. 13 billion U.S. dollars).

TOKYO -- Tokyo stocks ended 0.21 percent lower Tuesday as investors moved to take profits after recent gains. The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average was down 40.91 points, from Monday at 19,713. 45. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange declined 4.66 points, or 0.29 percent, lower at 1,587.59.

The turnover was 2,752.59 billion yen (about 22.98 billion U.S. dollars).

TAIPEI -- Taiwan's share prices closed down 0.27 percent on Tuesday with the weighted index down 26.43 points at 9,731.66, according to news reaching here from Taipei.

Turnover totaled 95.24 billion new Taiwan dollars (about 3.03 billion U.S. dollars) during the trading session.

SHANGHAI -- Chinese stocks ended higher on Tuesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.1 percent to finish at 3, 691.41 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index advanced 0.16 percent to close at 12,801.2 points.

MANILA -- Philippine shares closed 0.15 percent lower on Tuesday. The benchmark Philippine Stock Exchange index decreased by 11.55 points to 7828.94. The all-share index went down by 10.96 points, or 0.24 percent, to 4526.82.

Trading volume reached 1.80 billion shares worth 9.80 billion pesos (218.64 million U.S. dollars).

VIENTIANE -- The Lao stock market finished on Tuesday up 0.55 percent against the previous trading day.

The Lao Securities Exchange composite index increased by 7.90 points to 1,451.38. A total of 438,486 shares worth about 3.21 billion Lao kip (about 397,000 U.S. dollars) changed hands at the stock market.

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong stocks closed down 94.91 points, or 0.39 percent to 24,399.60 points on Tuesday.

The benchmark Hang Seng Index traded between 24,294.95 and 24, 490.15. Turnover totaled 89.74 billion HK dollars (about 11.56 billion U.S. dollars).

HANOI -- Stock market index of Vietnam's capital Hanoi, HNX- Index, closed at 83.32 points on Tuesday, down 0.62 points, or 0. 74 percent, against the previous trading session.

A total of 46.786 million shares worth 592.684 billion Vietnamese dong (27.76 million U.S. dollars) were traded at the Hanoi Stock Exchange on Tuesday, a decrease of 1.83 percent in volume and 1.29 percent in value against the previous trading session.

HO CHI MINH CITY -- VN-Index, the stock market index of Ho Chi Minh (HCM) City bourse in south Vietnam, closed at 567.43 points on Tuesday, down 3.46 points or 0.61 percent against the previous trading day's closing session.

About 91.921 million shares worth 1.690 trillion Vietnamese dong (VND) (78.80 million U.S. dollars) changed hands at the southern HCM City Stock Exchange. Prices of 66 stocks went up, 152 stocks fell down, while 73 stocks remained unchanged.

SINGAPORE -- Singapore stocks finished higher on Tuesday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) up 3.13 points, or 0.09 percent, to close at 3,413.26.

A total of 1.05 billion shares changed hands with turnover of 1. 02 billion Singapore dollars (744.5 million U.S. dollars).

KUALA LUMPUR -- The Malaysian stock market ended higher here on Tuesday. The Kuala Lumpur Composite Index (KLCI) was at 1,814.04 up 18.19 points or 1.00 percent, and the Emas was at 12,446.88 up 103.64 points or 0.83 percent.

Turnover increased to 1.95 billion shares valued at 1.83 billion ringgit Malaysia(501.16 million U.S. dollars), compared with 2.13 billion shares valued at 1.77 billion ringgit Malaysia( 478.83 million U.S. dollars) on Monday.

JAKARTA -- Indonesian shares closed higher by 10.55 points, or 0.19 percent, to a level of 5,447.65 on Tuesday.

Some 224,155 transactions were booked, involving 5.64 billion shares worth 8.12 trillion rupiah (about 626.20 million U.S. dollars).

MUMBAI -- Indian stocks closed lower on Tuesday after rallying over 250 points in intraday trade.

The benchmark S&P BSE Sensex closed at 28,161.72, 30.30 points or 0.10 percent down from the previous close of 28,192.02.

DHAKA -- Bangladesh's DSE (Dhaka Stock Exchange) Broad Index closed Tuesday at 4,493.40 points, down 13.15 points or about 0.29 percent from Monday's finish.

Total turnover decreased to about 2.56 billion taka (about 32. 76 million U.S. dollars) on Tuesday from about 3.14 billion taka ( about 40.31 million U.S. dollars) on Monday.
