Tokyo stocks end 0.21 pct lower on profit-taking

Tokyo stocks ended 0.21 percent lower Tuesday as investors moved to take profits after recent gains.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average was down 40.91 points, from Monday at 19,713.45. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange declined 4.66 points, or 0.29 percent, lower at 1,587.59.

Major decliners included shipping, warehousing and air transport issues, while mining and pharmaceuticals led gainers.

The turnover was 2,752.59 billion yen (about 22.98 billion U.S. dollars). Endi
