Obama to host Iraqi PM at White House in mid-April

Xinhua, March 23, 2015 Adjust font size:

U.S. President Barack Obama will host Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi at the White House on April 14, the White House said Monday.

"The Prime Minister's visit underscores the strategic partnership between the United States and Iraq and the strong U.S. commitment to political and military cooperation with Iraq in the joint fight against ISIL," White House spokesman Josh Earnest said in a statement, referring to the extremist group also known as the Islamic State (IS).

Obama and al-Abadi will discuss a range of issues, including continued U.S. support to Iraq to degrade and ultimately destroy the IS, and the promotion of a broad partnership between the two countries, Earnest said.

The two leaders will also discuss the Iraqi government's actions to address the needs of the Iraqi people and strengthen cooperation between all communities in the Middle Eastern nation, he added. Endi
