Vietnam Olympic team gears up for AFC U-23 qualifier

Japanese coach of Vietnam Olympic team, Toshyia Miura, has named 23 players who will compete in Malaysia later this month at the qualifiers of AFC U-23 Championships 2016, local VNExpress online reported Monday.

The team has three goalkeepers, seven defenders, nine midfielders and four strikers.

In Malaysia, it will vie against Japan, Malaysia and China's Macau in Group I for a ticket to the final round.

Ahead of the Asian qualifying round in Malaysia, Olympic Vietnam had several friendly games, including Olympic Indonesia (1-0), Olympic Uzbekistan (0-0), and Olympic Thailand (3-1).

The AFC U23 qualifiers, held from March 23-31, in Malaysia, in which 43 football teams are divided into 10 groups to compete.

According to the rules, 10 teams who top their group will advance to the final in Qatar next year. They will be joined by five second-placed squads who have best result during the qualification round.

The Vietnamese U-23 team will meet Malaysia on March 27. Two days later they will play Japan before meeting China's Macau on March 31. Endi
