Tokyo shares skyrocket by break following gains in U.S. market

Tokyo shares ended the morning session sharply higher Monday with its benchmark Nikkei stocks index hit a 15-year high following gains in the U.S. market before the weekend.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average skyrocketed 209.49 points, or 1.07 percent, higher from Friday to 19,769.71, after briefly climbing to 19,775.68, the highest intraday level since April 2000.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was up 13.23 points, or 0.84 percent, to 1, 593.74. Endi
