Tokyo shares open higher tracing U.S. gains

Tokyo shares opened higher Monday as sentiment here were boosted by gains on Wall Street before the weekend.

At 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 135.86 points, or 0.69 percent, from Friday to 19,696.08, after briefly climbing to its highest intraday level since April 2000.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was up 9.57 points, or 0.61 percent, to 1,590. 08. Endi
