Three persons were killed and three others including two children injured as a bomb blast rocked Kunduz city, the capital of Kunduz province 250 km north of Kabul on Saturday, provincial government spokesman Abdul Wasi Basil said.

"The blast took place at 11:50 a.m. (local time) against the car of the police chief of Chardara district in the second precinct of Kunduz city, killing three persons including a police constable and injuring three others including two children," Basil told reporters here.

Investigation has been initiated into the case, the official said, adding that the culprits would be brought to justice.

He said the police chief of Chardara district is among the injured, but he is in stable condition.

The official put the attack on the enemies of peace, a reference to the Taliban militants. Taliban outfit has yet to claim responsibility.

The blast happened when the district police chief was going to attend Nawroz festival to mark Nawroz or New Year in Persian calendar, which falls on March 21 and is celebrated in Afghanistan, Iran and parts of central Asian countries. Endi
