2nd LD Writethru: 2 killed, 7 injured in Pakistan Karachi's mosque blast

At least two people were killed and seven others injured when a bomb went off at the entrance gate of a mosque in Pakistan's southern port city of Karachi on Friday afternoon, officials said.

Raja Umar Khitab, senior superintendent of the Criminal Investigation Department, said that the bomb was triggered off by a timed device, fixed at a motorbike, when people were coming out of the mosque after Friday prayers.

He said that an estimated two to three kg of explosive materials were fixed on a motorbike parked outside the mosque of minority Bohra community.

The injured people were shifted to Bohra Community's hospital, located next to the mosque, from where four critically wounded victims were shifted to Civil Hospital Karachi.

Seven bikes were destroyed in the blast

The attack happened at about 1: 50 p.m. local time (0850 GMT) in uptown Aram Bagh area of Karachi, the capital city of the country's south Sindh province.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif condemned the blast and directed the hospital administration to provide best possible medical facilities to the inured people.

Qaim Ali Shah, chief minister of Sindh, condemned the bomb attack too, and sought report from the concerned officials.

No group has claimed the responsibility for the attack yet.

Security has been tightened in Islamabad and Lahore following the Karachi blast, said local media. Endi
