Cambodian PM seeks Guinness record for largest traditional sticky rice cake

Xinhua, March 18, 2015 Adjust font size:

Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen said Wednesday that his country is seeking a Guinness World Record for a giant traditional sticky rice cake weighing 3.2 tons.

The cake will be exhibited during the Khmer New Year celebrations in mid-April. "A 3.2-ton sticky rice cake will be made this year, bigger than the last year's 2.8-ton sticky rice cake," he said during a ground- breaking ceremony for a national road in northwestern Banteay Meanchey province. "It is a giant sticky rice cake."

The prime minister said he may invite a team from the Guinness World Records to consider the "largest sticky rice cake" for a Guinness World Record, comparing with sticky rice cakes in other Asian countries.

Hun Sen also invited Chinese Ambassador Bu Jianguo to join him in tasting the giant sticky rice cake, which will be displayed at the complex of the world heritage Angkor Wat Temple in northwestern Siem Reap province on April 14-16.

Sticky rice cake is made of sticky rice, beans and pork. Last year's giant sticky rice cake took a week to create it at a cost of 7,500 U.S. dollars.

Cambodia organizes the Khmer New Year celebrations at Angkor Wat Temple aiming to attract more local and foreign tourists to the world heritage site. Endi
