Xinhua, March 18, 2015 Adjust font size:

At least seven people were killed and 20 others wounded after a car bombing rocked Lashkar Gah, the provincial capital of southern Afghan province of Helmand on Wednesday, police said.

"The blast took place following a meeting in governor media center. Several local officials were among the injured," a police source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.

The car bombing took place at around 10:50 a.m. (local time) in the area, where several government office buildings are located, the source said, adding that details will be revealed after an ongoing investigation.

The casualties were shifted to hospitals in the city.

Government troops cordoned off the area shortly after the blast.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack yet.

The blast caused a plume of grey smoke to rise above the scene. Endi
