Poland, Sweden discuss energy security

Polish Prime Minister Ewa Kopacz on Monday discussed issues surrounding energy security with her Swedish counterpart Stefan Loefven.

The meeting was a part of consultations before the upcoming European Council.

"A key to a strong energy union is the solidarity of Europe in case of a supply crisis and the clarity of supply contracts," Kopacz said, stressing that all agreements signed should consider the energy security of the entire EU.

She added that an indispensable pillar of energy security was local energy resources, which should not be rejected in advance as far as they contribute to strengthening the EU energy situation and provided they are not harmful to environment.

Loefven expressed Sweden's "great interest in energy issues," adding both countries should participate in investments which contribute to the development of the EU economy and create "a common market."

Both parties also discussed the recent security situation in Ukraine.

The meeting of Polish and Swedish leaders is a part of a series of international consultations before the upcoming European Council, to be held on March 19.

Last week, Kopacz met with French Prime Minister Manuel Valls and Romanian President Klaus Iohannis. Endit
