Xinhua, March 16, 2015 Adjust font size:

At least 17 people killed and 11 others seriously injured when a public bus veered off the road in Jumla District of North-western Nepal on Monday, police officers told Xinhua.

Police Inspector Indra Bahadur Saud said that the public bus skidded off the highway at Raralihi Village Development Committee in Jumla District and plunged some 200 km down into the Tila River on Monday morning.

"Of the total deceased, 13 were died on the spot and 11 are undergoing treatment at Karnali Academy of Health Sciences based in Jumla," Saud told Xinhua over the phone.

The incident site is some 24 km away from Khalanga, the headquarters of Jumla District.

Road accidents have been significantly increased in Nepal in recent years despite the government is implementing measures to minimize the accidents. Endi
