Swiss national arrested in Cambodia for alleged child molestation

Xinhua, March 15, 2015 Adjust font size:

Cambodia's Siem Reap Provincial Court has charged Swiss man Pirmin Ramel, 32, who ran a holiday villa in the province, for sexually exploiting three underage boys, according to a media statement released by child protection NGO Action Pour Les Enfants (APLE) on Sunday.

The court charged the suspect on Friday with sexual intercourse with minor under 15 years old, said APLE, which assisted the police in the investigation and is providing legal support to the victims.

The victims are aged between 7 and 9 years old, it said.

Ramel became the subject of APLE's investigation after a report from another child protection organization and a report from general public who came across his online activities suspicious, the statement said.

"His offline behavior as well as his online behavior raised serious concerns and warranted an investigation to be opened. After APLE identified a boy who testified that he had been sexually exploited, we advocated strongly with police to conduct official interviews and to identify more victims," said Khoem Vando, APLE's deputy of field operations.

During the arrest, Ramel's computer and some other electronic devices were confiscated for further examination. Endi
