Xinhua, March 15, 2015 Adjust font size:

Salaries for people in Slovak capital Bratislava are 40 percent higher than those living in eastern part of Slovakia, local media reported on Saturday.

Average monthly gross salary for people in Bratislava region reached 1,107 euros (1,162 U.S. Dollar) last year, while people in Kosice region earn an average of 775 euro per month, news agency TASR cited figures released by Postova banka.

People in Bratislava region have better chances of finding a job, but have heavier burdens of mortgages than those living in eastern Slovakia, according to Postova banka analyst Jana Glasova.

In comparison, residents in the eastern region have lower costs of living and lower real estate prices, which make it easier for them to pay back loans, according to the analyst.

While 46 percent of households in eastern Slovakia were reported to have difficulties paying off loans, the figure for Bratislava region reached about two thirds.( 1 euro = 1.05 U.S. dollars) Enditem
