Lebanese in UAE abide by law: ministry

Xinhua, March 14, 2015 Adjust font size:

Lebanon's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Friday that Lebanese in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) fully integrate into the Emirati society and abide by its laws.

The ministry made the remarks in a statement following the UAE ordered 70 Lebanese, mostly Shiites, to leave the country in the latest wave of deportations from the oil-rich state.

Earlier on Friday, Lebanon's Minister of Foreign Affairs Gebran Bassil was informed by the Lebanese embassy in the Emirates about the issue and contacted with his Emirati counterpart to inquire about the matter.

Figures show more than 100,000 Lebanese nationals live and work in the UAE. Hundreds of Lebanese, mostly Shiite Muslims, have been deported from the UAE since 2009. Endit
