Cambodian PM heads for U.N. disaster control summit in Japan

Xinhua, March 13, 2015 Adjust font size:

Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen left for Sendai, Japan on Friday to attend the 3rd United Nations World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction, which will be held from March 14 to 18.

"At the conference, Prime Minister Hun Sen will deliver a speech related to disaster risk reduction," Sry Thamarong, minister attached to Prime Minister Hun Sen, told reporters at Phnom Penh International Airport before departure.

The conference will review the progress of the "Hyogo Framework for Action 2005-2015: building the resilience of nations and communities to disasters" and consider its successor, a post-2015 framework for disaster risk reduction, he said.

On the sidelines of the conference, Hun Sen will meet separately with United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, he added.

He will also pay a courtesy call on Japanese Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko. Endi
