Belarus agrees to represent Russia in Joint Consultative Group on CFE

Xinhua, March 12, 2015 Adjust font size:

Belarusian Foreign Ministry press officer Dmitry Mironchik said Wednesday Belarus has agreed to represent Russia's interests in the Joint Consultative Group (JCG) on the Treaty on Conventional Armed Forces in Europe (CFE).

In response to Russia's request, Belarus agreed to represent Russia's interests in the group and intends to do it impartially and without any detriment to its own position, Mironchik told local media Wednesday.

The official stressed that Belarus regards the JCG as the most convenient format for exchanging views on the future of this regime with other CFE member states. "We believe that discussions on this matter can be resumed in the JCG if there is a political will on the part of all stakeholders," he added.

Earlier, Russia officially announced its decision to suspend its participation in the meetings of the CFE Joint Consultative Group and asked Belarus to represent its interests in this body. Endite
