1st LD-Writethru: Taiwan's Siew to attend Boao Forum

Xinhua, March 11, 2015 Adjust font size:

Taiwan politician Vincent Siew, honorary chairman of the Taiwan-based Cross-Straits Common Market Foundation, will attend the Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference 2015, a Chinese mainland spokeswoman said on Wednesday.

The Boao conference will be held in south China's Hainan Province at the end of March, said Fan Liqing of the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office at a press conference.

In addition, Fan said the mainland has maintained communication with Taiwan's mainland affairs committee on fixing a date for a planned visit by Zhang Zhijun, head of the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, to Taiwan and a meeting with the committee's new chief, Andrew Hsia.

Zhang was originally scheduled to visit Kinmen on Feb. 7-8 and meet with Wang Yu-chi, who was Taiwan's mainland affairs chief until his resignation on Feb. 16. The visit has been delayed, as both the mainland and Taiwan must focus on the aftermath of the plane crash in Taipei on Feb. 4.

"Exchanging visits and meetings between cross-Strait affairs chiefs is an important part of the regular communication mechanism between the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office and Taiwan's mainland affairs committee," Fan said. Endi
