At least eight people were killed and six others wounded in a suicide car bombing in southern Afghan provincial capital of Lashkar Gah on Tuesday evening, official source said.

"The blast targeted a running police vehicle in Bolan locality, a suburban in Lashkar Gah, capital of Helmand province. The attack caused seven civilians and the attacker killed," provincial government spokesman Omar Zwak told Xinhua. (Afghanistan-Car Bombing)

KIEV -- The leadership of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic in eastern Ukraine said Tuesday that it had launched military exercises in some areas in the insurgents-controlled Donetsk region.

The main goal of the drills is "to improve the combat strength" of the insurgent forces, the self-styled defence ministry said in a statement, which was published by the rebel-run Donetsk News Agency. (Ukraine-Donetsk-Drills)

DAMASCUS -- Syrian warplanes struck a rebel operation room in the southern province of Qunaitera on Tuesday, killing undisclosed number of rebel commanders, the pan-Arab al-Mayadeen TV reported.

The war jets pounded the operation room in the town of Konda in the countryside of Qunaitera, about one km from the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights, the report said, without spelling any further details. (Syria-Airstrike-Rebel)

ROME -- Italian police on Tuesday carried out a major operation against Camorra, the crime syndicate based in the southern region of Campania, local media reported. ' At least 40 people were arrested, and variously charged with mafia association, extortion, illegal possession of weapons, and receiving stolen goods.

All those arrested are alleged members of the Casalesi, a clan inside Camorra that is rooted in the small town of Casal di Principe, according to Naples-based Il Mattino newspaper. (Italy-Mafia) Endi
