Chinese stocks closed mixed on Tuesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.49 percent to finish at 3,286.07 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index gained 0.20 percent to close at 11, 556.65 points.

SEOUL -- Seoul shares ended lower on Tuesday.

The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) fell 8. 05 points, or 0.4 percent, to 1,984.77 at the close. Trading volume stood at 430.27 million shares worth 4.68 trillion won (4. 17 billion U.S. dollars).

TOKYO -- Tokyo stocks fell 0.67 percent to a two-week low Tuesday as the yen's sharp fall sparked concerns about rises in import costs for Japanese firms.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average was down 125.44 points, from Monday to 18,665.11, the lowest close since Feb. 25.

The turnover was 2,596.83 billion yen (about 21.31 billion U.S. dollars

HONG KONG -- Taiwan's share prices closed down 0.27 percent Tuesday with the weighted index down 26.45 points at 9,536.53, according to news reaching here from Taipei.

Turnover totaled 91.90 billion new Taiwan dollars (2.92 billion U.S. dollars) during the trading session.

VIENTIANE -- The Lao stock market finished on Tuesday down 2.48 percent against the previous trading day.

The Lao Securities Exchange composite index decreased by 36.81 points to 1,447.02. A total of 17,423 shares worth about 86 million Lao kip (about 11,000 U.S. dollars) changed hands at the stock market.

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong stocks moved down 226.07 points, or 0.94 percent, to close on Tuesday at 23,896.98 points.

HO CHI MINH CITY -- VN-Index, the stock market index of Ho Chi Minh (HCM) City bourse in south Vietnam, closed at 589.66 points on Tuesday, up 1.22 points, or 0.21 percent, against the previous trading day's closing session.

About 105.173 million shares worth 1.775 trillion Vietnamese dong (VND) (82.74 million U.S. dollars) changed hands at the southern HCM City Stock Exchange. Prices of 103 stocks went up, 97 stocks fell down, while 81 stocks remained unchanged.

HANOI -- Stock market index of Vietnam's capital Hanoi, HNX- Index, closed at 86.36 points on Tuesday, up 0.47 points, or 0.54 percent, against the previous trading session.

A total of 39.901 million shares worth 543.539 billion Vietnamese dong (25.46 million U.S. dollars) were traded at the Hanoi Stock Exchange on Tuesday, an increase of 4.78 percent in volume and 9.88 percent in value against the previous trading session.

SINGAPORE -- Singapore stocks finished lower on Tuesday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) down 6.31 points, or 0.19 percent, to close at 3,398.26.

A total of 1.17 billion shares changed hands with turnover of 1. 18 billion Singapore dollars (861.3 million U.S. dollars).

KUALA LUMPUR -- The Malaysian stock market ended lower here on Tuesday.

The Kuala Lumpur Composite Index (KLCI) was at 1,789.73, down 2. 01 points or 0.11 percent, and the Emas was at 12,348.26, down 2. 14 points or 0.02 percent.

Turnover increased to 2.54 billion shares valued at 2.32 billion ringgit Malaysia (626.18 million U.S. dollars), compared with 2.14 billion shares valued at 1.87 billion ringgit Malaysia ( 508.29 million U.S. dollars) on Monday.

DHAKA -- Bangladesh's DSE (Dhaka Stock Exchange) Broad Index closed Tuesday at 4,649.30 points, up 23.08 points or about 0.50 percent from Monday's finish.

Total turnover increased to about 2.55 billion taka (about 32. 72 million U.S. dollars) on Tuesday from about 2.49 billion taka ( about 27.75 million U.S. dollars) on Monday.

JAKARTA -- Indonesian shares closed higher by 18.29 points, or 0.34 percent, to a level of 5,462.93 on Tuesday.

Some 269,094 transactions were booked, involving 7.79 billion shares worth 6.21 trillion rupiah (about 475.38 million U.S. dollars).

MUMBAI --Indian stocks extended losses on Tuesday, led by shares of realty and energy companies, and banks.
