French Olympic champ killed in air crash

Xinhua, March 10, 2015 Adjust font size:

London Olympic swimming champion Camille Muffat was among 10 people killed Monday when their helicopters collided in mid-air in Argentina.

Muffat, 25, brought home three medals at the 2012 London Olympic Games, including the gold in the 400-meter freestyle.

Champion sailor Florence Arthaud and Olympic boxer Alexis Vastine were among those killed when two helicopters filming the survival series "Dropped" crashed into each other in the rugged mountains of La Rioja province, local officials said.

The 57-year-old Arthaud was one of the best sailors in the world, winning the 1990 Route du Rhum, the most prestigious race to cross the Atlantic solo.

Vastine, 28, won a bronze medal at the Beijing Olympic Games in 2008 in the light welterweight category. Endi
